Stephen's views on IranUnderstandably, many people are anxious at the current situation brewing in Iran. History shows that military conflict tends not to alleviate political tension. Indeed, my colleagues and I are doing our utmost to flag up the pending predicament. Ming Campbell has openly explained the importance of an accommodation with Iran. I am sure that you will agree that the international community is right to put pressure on Iran's government; the key is not to include the threat of pre-emptive military action. The Government must understand that there has to be a balance between the threat of sanctions on the one hand, and incentives of economic assistance and possible security guarantees, on the other. You can be sure that my colleagues and I will continue to press the Government on this matter in the hope that we may reach a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Iran.
