Stephen Williams Writes to First Bus Concerning Terror Charges

11.36.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 16th Jun 2008

Stephen Williams today sent the following letter to Justin Davies Managing Director of First Bus.

Dear Mr Davies,

I was most disturbed to be informed by the BBC that First Bus have charged Avon and Somerset constabulary £125,000 in order to provide CCTV footage. This footage was required by the Police as part of their investigation into the alleged terrorist offences committed by a resident of Westbury-on-Trym in my constituency.

I am somewhat surprised by the magnitude of this figure and would be grateful for your urgent explanation as to how the amount was quantified. I am sure you will not be surprised to find that the public reaction is that no company should be seen to be levying unreasonable charges for material that is in any event routinely collected such as CCTV footage on your busses.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Williams
