Stephen Williams MP - working hard for Bristol West

MP takes Bristol Harbour ferry trip

6.00.00pm GMT Mon 25th Jan 2010

Stephen Williams MP has Lent his support to Bristol's Harbour ferry service. He met with the Bristol Ferry Boat company's director, Rob Salvidge, to discuss better promotion of the ferry boat services, while taking a trip on the 'Brigantia' from Canons' Marsh to the Cumberland Basin and back. The company, which has been in operation for over 30 years, now has 5 of the distinctive yellow boats plus 2 red boats and 1 large pleasure craft. As well as providing a commuter service between Bristol Temple Meads, The Centre and Hotwells, they also provide all year round pleasure trips around the harbour, for instance to SS Great Britain.

Stephen says, "I have been on these boats many times since I first came to Bristol in 1985, and have always enjoyed showing family and friends the delights of Bristol from the advantage point of the harbour. I've always felt that one of Bristol's greatest assets is its waterfront and that as well as enhancing the quayside we should be making much more use of the watercourse itself. In particular, it would be great if all visitors arriving at the city, for instance at Temple Meads, were pointed to the ferry boat service."
