Stephen Williams MP Welcomes “Studying Politics at University” Workshop at Bristol University

Stephen Williams, MP for Bristol West, has welcomed the news that the acclaimed Political Studies Association's "Studying Politics at University" workshop series will visit Bristol this summer. The workshop will be taking place at Bristol University on Friday 11thJuly, 2014.

Every year, the Political Studies Association organises a series of schools workshops at universities around the United Kingdom. The workshops are designed to give students a sense of what to expect if they choose to undertake a degree in politics. The workshop will cover areas such as: selecting the right course and institution, the application process, and what to expect when you get to university. As well as including a lecture by a leading academic in Politics and a lunch with university members of staff.

Bristol West's MP, Stephen Williams is opening the workshop to talk to prospective politics students about his work and experiences of local politics, Parliament and as Minister for Communities and Local Government in the Coalition.

Commenting, Stephen Williams MP said:

"It is excellent that Bristol University is hosting a workshop of this nature - encouraging young people to become more engaged in politics is really important. I welcome the role that the Political Studies Association is playing in providing guidance to young people in Bristol and the surrounding area on applying for university.

"I hope that the workshop will show them how and why they should take part in our democratic system - sparking their political journeys into local, national and globally-minded citizens."

CEO of the Political Studies Association, Helena Djurkovic, said:

"A degree in politics prepares students for many forms of employment as well as further study. It's important that young people are given advice and impartial information about what to expect if choosing to study in this discipline.

"The workshops have been very successful previously, and with a degree in politics continuing to be more popular than ever we're expecting a strong interest in our workshop series again. Priority will be given to PSA member schools for the workshops - however, we encourage and welcome further participation for all sixth form students thinking of a degree in politics."
